Hi, my name is Matt Rorer. I‘m a Communications major focusing on integrated media in hopes to have a steady career in radio. I would have never thought I‘d be doing radio, I always that I would be a writer or something. Never pass up new opportunities. At WCUG, my job responsibilities are to create liners for information, shows, and blocks that play between songs. I also edit show material that goes on air. You will usually see me smiling or acting silly, and we like to promote a fun yet professional space at WCUG, so please come by, we‘d love to add to the WCUG family!

Being the Operations Director is a lot of responsibility but it‘s a fun challenge to keep everything together and running the way it should. It‘s taken a while to figure out what the right fit for me is but I feel like I have finally found my home here. About the Station

        WCUG 88.5 FM

WCUG 88.5 FM is Columbus State University’s student-driven radio station. Operated through the Department of Communication under faculty direction, “Cougar Radio” offers a learning experience for students interested in all facets of radio broadcasting – from on-air, to programming and production, to station management.

        COMMUNITY

While WCUG 88.5 FM is a “student radio station,” its reach extends throughout the greater Columbus community. Listeners are treated to an eclectic blend of programming that entertains and informs. This is an exciting alternative in local radio. So stay tuned, Columbus, and enjoy the experience.

        FACILITY

The 22,000-watt, 24-hour station exists thanks to a gift from a community supporter. When Columbus State received the generous contribution of 88.5 FM, the vision was to add a radio broadcast platform to the growing multimedia platform in the Department of Communication.

        STUDENT SUCCESS

The success of Communication program graduates is linked to a strategic combination of theory and practical application in the students’ areas of interest. This powerful combination of classroom education and experience helps develop creative Communication professionals who are highly marketable in the broadcasting industry.

WCUG 88.5 FM offers entertainment and information, with programming focused on different music genres, talk radio, news, and sports. University students and faculty produce and broadcast original content, and listeners enjoy music and other programming to fit diverse tastes and interests.
